Naterstreek

The Naterstreek is a hidden gem located between Zonnemaire and the Grevelingen. This former creek area, which originated from a dike breach, is an important nature reserve for various bird species. Although it was once larger, it has been truncated and weakened by the construction of polders. Since the Grevelingen was closed off, the water and surrounding land have gradually become sweeter, but salty plants can still be found.

Throughout the year, you can enjoy the abundant birdlife in the Naterstreek. Especially in spring and summer, you can spot spoonbills, marsh harriers, geese, ducks, black-winged stilts, oystercatchers, and little egrets searching for food in the shallow water.

State Forestry Commission lets nature take its course, and the creek will gradually change, causing the vegetation and bird population to evolve over the coming years. Although the area is not accessible, it can be viewed from the Grevelingendijk or the Binnendijk that runs through the area. Come and discover the beautiful nature of the Naterstreek and be enchanted by the diversity of birds and plants!
