Off-leash areas on Schouwen-Duiveland

Want to let your dog run free for a while? You can do so in the designated off-leash areas. Whether you live on the island or are on holiday with your dog, there are plenty of areas to explore together. Before heading out, don’t forget a dog waste bag. In built-up areas, on beaches, and in recreational areas, it’s required to clean up after your dog. Most towns, villages, and large parking lots have dispensers with waste bags. That way, we all help keep Schouwen-Duiveland even more beautiful and clean—for everyone, including our furry friends.

Keep it clean - for everyone

Getting some fresh air is much nicer without surprises under your shoes. Always bring something to clean up your dog’s waste. In built-up areas, on beaches, and in recreational zones, this is mandatory. In rural areas, we count on you too.

Along walking trails and near dog play areas, you’ll find dispensers with bags and bins. Feel free to use what you need—and dispose of it properly.

All rules - at a glance

  • Within built-up areas

    Keep your dog on a leash.

    Always clean up dog waste.

    Dogs are not allowed in children’s playgrounds and play meadows.

  • Outside built-up areas

    Dogs may be off-leash, but please consider the safety of your dog and other road users, as well as nature and local rules.

    In sensitive areas, such as nesting sites or busy recreational areas, seasonal or situational leash rules may apply. Always pay attention to local signs.

    Dogs are not allowed in the Vroongronden and Dijkwater areas!

  • Beach and sea

    • From October 1 to April 30: dogs may be off-leash all day.
    • From May 1 to October 1: dogs may be off-leash between 7:00 PM and 10:00 AM. During the day, they must be leashed.
    • At Verklikkerstrand: dogs must be leashed at all times from April 1 to September 15 due to nesting birds.
    • At De Punt beach: dogs may run free year-round.
