Nepenthe
Nepenthe is a fictional medicine from classical antiquity that was used to dispel suffering. In Homer's Odyssey, it represents temporary relief and comfort, a mythical elixir that makes sorrow forgotten.
Can art stretch or slow down our experience of linear, sequential time (— Chronos), allowing memories to fade and allowing us to become absorbed in an elusive but meaningful moment (— Kairos)?
With this group exhibition, Atelier 21 offers no answers, but rather an interstitial space of imagination. A place where viewing, experiencing and undergoing can themselves become a form of Nepenthe.
