On Sunday afternoon, 11 October, Podium aan Schouwen presents a special double concert at Grand Hotel ter Duin in Burgh-Haamstede, featuring pianist Ivan Paduart, guitarist Patrick Deltenre and singer Fay Claassen. Dutch saxophonist Toon Roos joins as guest soloist. The concert celebrates musical friendship, long-standing collaborations and Ivan Paduart's sixtieth birthday.
Ivan Paduart Trio with Patrick Deltenre
Before the break, Ivan Paduart and his trio take the stage together with Patrick Deltenre. Paduart is one of the best-known and most lyrical pianists in Belgian jazz. With more than thirty albums to his name and collaborations with musicians such as Toots Thielemans, Bert Joris, David Lynx, Paolo Fresu, Richard Bona, Manu Katché, Richard Galliano and the Metropole Orkest, he has developed a musical language all his own: melodic, warm and refined, with plenty of room for breath, colour and interplay.
Paduart worked for over 25 years with bassist Philippe Aerts and drummer Hans van Oosterhout. To mark his sixtieth birthday and celebrate his twenty-year friendship with Fay Claassen and Toon Roos, he comes to Burgh-Haamstede for this unique double concert.
Belgian guitarist Patrick Deltenre is one of the most versatile guitarists of his generation. Driven by his love of jazz, he has developed a broad musical palette in which jazz, blues, fusion, pop and chanson meet effortlessly. Over the years he has worked with an impressive list of artists, including Maurane, Axelle Red, Viktor Lazlo, Isabelle Antena, Adamo, Richard Galliano, Philip Catherine and Toots Thielemans.
His musical partnership with Paduart dates back to the 1980s. Since 2017 they have once again formed a close duo, releasing the albums Hand in Hand, Ear We Are and Inner Travels together. Their interplay is marked by space, subtlety and strong musical interaction.
Fay Claassen and Toon Roos
After the break, Fay Claassen takes centre stage. She is one of the Netherlands' most prominent jazz singers, known for her exceptional sense of timing, lyrics and tone colour. Fay regularly collaborates with musicians such as Cor Bakker and Mike Boddé and performs with her own band of top musicians. She is currently also appearing on the popular AVROTROS programme Beste Zanger, as the first jazz singer ever featured on the show.
Fay Claassen and Ivan Paduart have now been collaborating for over twenty years on various projects, including A Night at the Music Village, which also featured Toon Roos, Bert Joris and Toots Thielemans. Fay was also a guest vocalist on the live recording of Paduart's album Crush with the Metropole Orkest at the famous Cirque Royal in Brussels.
Toon Roos is a Dutch soprano and tenor saxophonist and composer. With his lyrical, intuitive and balanced playing style, he ranks among Europe's leading jazz saxophonists. He performed with his group as the opening act for Steely Dan on their European tour and has worked with musicians such as Joe Zawinul, Toots Thielemans, John Scofield and Peter Erskine. His accolades include the Wessel Ilcken Prize and the Bird Award. He also teaches at the jazz departments of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and the Utrecht Conservatory.
With Ivan Paduart, Patrick Deltenre, Fay Claassen and Toon Roos on the bill, this afternoon promises lyricism, improvisation and musical adventure. A special meeting of four musicians with an impressive track record, in one of the most beautiful spots in the Netherlands.
