De Slikken van Bommenede

At the Slikken van Bommenede, you will find more than 400 breeding bird species, including threatened and rare species such as the harrier and the Arctic tern. This nature reserve covers an area of 90 hectares and is covered with trees, shrubs, and plants such as sea buckthorn, willow, and marsh helleborine. The island in front of the mudflats is the most important breeding ground for birds and provides protection against predators such as rats and foxes. During the summer months, cows graze to prevent overgrowth. Unfortunately, the nature reserve is not accessible to the public, but you can enjoy the view from the Zonnemairsedijk and the road along the harbor.
