Dreischor
Dreischor is one of the best-preserved historic ring villages on Schouwen-Duiveland, rich in monuments. Stroll through its narrow streets and take in the welcoming atmosphere, while admiring the monumental houses with their elegant façades, including several with distinctive stepped gables. At the heart of the village stands the impressive Sint Adriaanskerk, dating back to the 14th century and surrounded by a moat. The oldest houses form a circular pattern around the church and its cemetery. With its many monuments, Dreischor is officially recognized as a protected villagescape.
Relics of the past
A little further from the village centre of Dreischor stands the windmill Aeolus windmill Dreischor, dating from 1739 and named after the Greek god of the wind. Although it is no longer in use as a grain mill, visitors are warmly welcome to take a look inside whenever the sails are turning. On the edge of the village, the old praethuus has long been a place where locals gather to exchange the latest news. On the site of the former Windenburg Castle Dreischor now stands the impressive former mayor’s residence, built in 1956.
Industrial monument Pasveersloot
A remarkable industrial heritage site is the Pasveersloot Dreischor, located just outside Dreischor along the Welleweg. From 1960 to 2001, this channel was used as a wastewater treatment system a simple and cost-effective way to purify water. At the time, it was an innovative development in the field of wastewater treatment and marked an important milestone in environmental engineering. The installation is named after its designer, Abe Pasveer. Although the Pasveersloot in Dreischor is no longer in operation, it has been fully preserved and could, in principle, still function today.
